First:
- Check the physical connections first.
- Check that drivers have been installed and are up-to-date.
- Check that appropriate software has been installed, including printer
Software on each machine
- Check that other software is not causing the problem. Sometimes
software can cause files to fail to open or to be overwritten with new
files that are not compatible with the older software already installed.
- Check that there are no hardware conflicts. You can view by
connection, input and output addresses, interrupt request and memory
address. This can often be solved by removing the device, remove any
related software and reboot the computer so it reconfigures itself.
Then connect the device again and reboot. The computer may reinstall
and configure itself correctly.
- Check that hardware is compatible. For example, adding a modern
printer to a computer with an out-of-date operating system may mean
that drivers have not been created for that operating system.
Printers
- Check that the printers are turned and all cables are securely
connected
- Make sure that clients have appropriate access permissions to use the
printers
- Make sure printers have paper and are not low on ink
- As mentioned above: make sure software is installed and up-to-date
